There's nothing like a little vacay to throw off your diet and what's that you say? Gym? What's that? If you hate going to the gym while you're on vacation, you're not alone. But all that fine dining mixed with sitting around sunbathing all day can lead to some serious weight gain. To help stay slim while skipping the gym on vacation, follow these simple tips:
- Walk it Off: There's no better way to explore a new place than by walking. Soak up the smells, sights and culture by exploring. Take a stroll, go for a run, rent a bike and get out there! Not only will you see things you wouldn't by car, but you'll help digest all those excess calories along the way.
- Try Something New: No matter the destination, almost all vacation spots offer amazing hikes or other activities that will not only offer an unforgettable experience but will also act as exercise. I'm all about swimming or other water sports if your going someplace tropical. Did you know that an hour of swimming can burn up to 900 calories? Get in the water, hike up that mountain, and make some memories!
- Indulge Once a Day: Notice how I use the word once? I feel ya. We're on vacation. Time to let loose and give-in to all those cravings. If you like PiƱa coladas (and getting caught in the rain), go for it. But instead of sipping on a calorific cocktail all day long. Limit yourself to just one then opt for a more calorie conscious choice like this one. Same thing goes for food. Can't resist that breakfast buffet? (I'm a sucker) Then opt for a healthy lunch and dinner.
- Hydrate: I've said it before and I'll say it again, hydrate, hydrate hydrate. You should be drinking water all day long. Especially if you're going someplace warm, make sure you're drinking enough water. If you're not sure how much is enough, read this post.
Bottom line, we all deserve a vacation to relax and unwind from it all. Don't beat yourself up if you don't work out every day or indulge in a few more guilty pleasures than usual. After all, that's what vacay is all about! Follow the above tips and get back into your normal diet and fitness routine as soon as you get home. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to get back into it. xo
