It's that time of the year. Shorts, dresses, skirts, bikinis... it's time to show off those legs! There's nothing worse than a pair of dimply thighs though, right? So how do we combat that blasted cellulite? Well, unfortunately there's no magic recipe, cream or exercise that I can tell you about, but there are a few tips that can dramatically reduce those ripples and divots...
Healthy Fats: I know it sounds crazy but healthy fats like those found in coconut, avocado, nuts and seeds and foods high in Omega-3s will actually help your body to burn more fat. Our body needs fat to survive and (to put it simply) if we aren't giving it the healthy fat, it will make yucky cellulite fat.
Avoid White Foods: Stay away from salt, sugar and flour. Reducing your intake of sugar and flour will be the most effective way to get rid of cellulite. White flour almost immediately turns to sugar in our bodies and unfortunately sugar turns to fat. Too much salt (check the sodium label) will cause our body to retain water and make us bloated.
Water, Water & More Water: Remember the Water Challenge? Drinking water throughout the day will help to speed up metabolism and reduce the appearance of cellulite by keeping your body hydrated.
Kelp: Contains fucoxanthin (fancy word, huh?), which helps the body burn fat. Studies show that ingesting kelp can help facilitate a 5-10% loss in body weight!
Flaxseed: Flaxseed supports estrogen levels and boosts collagen growth. Strengthening the skin, it helps reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Watermelon: Did you read for the Love of Watermelon? Contains citrulline, preventing excess accumulation of fat in fat cells...adios cellulite!
Defy Gravity: Adding just a little bit of resistance to your cardio routine will help to build muscle and rid cellulite. If you normally opt for the treadmill, turn up the gradient (angle) by a few degrees. Your mind won't notice the difference, but your body will. Or try the stair master or elliptical.
Resistance Training: Squats & Lunges are by far my favorite exercises to burn fat and build muscle. Furthermore, your thighs are the largest muscle in your body, which means they burn the most calories when you work them!
One final thought, don't be discouraged if you have cellulite... ALL of us do! Even the skinniest, tinest model or trainer has a little. Airbrushing and lighting makes all the difference. Don't get discouraged, you look fantastic xo
